Product Description
The OCZ PC3-12800 triple-channel memory kits are designed particularly for the Intel Core i7 processor / Intel X58 Express chipset. Developed for enthusiasts and early-adopters, the low voltage OCZ Triple Channel solutions are the choice counterparts for leading-edge performance that won’t inhibit the functionality of Core i7 CPUs. In addendum, modules are tested in matched triplets ensuring superior compatibility. OCZ’s Triple Channel kits are 100% hand-tested for quality assurance and compatibility and figure propriety XTC heatspreaders for the most effective heat dissipation.

This memory is labeled as 1600mHz CL 7-7-7-24. This is (intentionally?) misleading. The mark should read 1600mHz CL 9-9-9-24, because if you check the SPD settings in BIOS or a curriculum like CPU-Z, you’ll see that if you run this memory at 1600mHz those are the actual timings you really get (no XMS support). Which is basically what every basic DDR3 memory can run at these days.
In order to get the advertised 7-7-7-24 timings you have to run the memory at 1066mHz. So you can get 1600mHz speed *OR* 7-7-7-24 latency, but not both at the same time as might be implicit from the mark. Very lame, and very disappointing. Memory runs fine otherwise.
Though, since I can’t trust OCZ to accurately mark their memory, I am persistent this and will never buy OCZ again. Stick to a more honest memory manufacturer like Corsair, Crucial, Micron, or Kingston.

Memory was place in to a 7i computer. No problems and I am not going to clock this computer.

The memory itself is fine; I bought 2 x 6gb packages from another vendor in 5/09 and it all worked fine (passed memtest). In 6/09, I got two more of the same from amazon, but 4 of the 6 2gb sticks in total were terrible. They sent me a replacement package, and at least 2 of the 6 sticks were terrible so I just returned all of it and bought it from the other vendor again instead of amazon. The odds of this happening by chance are not excellent, so I wouldn’t buy this from amazon again (and yes, I’m writing this review because I’m annoyed that my time has been wasted).

It had expected so many terrible reviews. That is why it is on sale @ $91. Either I am lucky, or OCZ has fixed the QA problem. My set not only runs @1600MHz, 7-7-7-24 as sepc. also at least 1866MHz, 8-8-8-24, @1.64v, in ASUS P6t delux. it passes memtest86+ as well as 3D and PC vantage. My guess is that OCZ overly fixed it. I reckon the price of DDR3 at this speed should be close to the bottom. SO buy it if you need or even just for fun. BTW, the OCZ’s net-like heatsink performs better than common heat spread. I checked its temparature between heatsink and memory chips during memtest86+ @1866MHz, just 46c.
