The first thing you’ll notice when you unpack this guide is the improper grammar used on the packaging, which intends to state the contents were made in China.
The second thing you’ll notice is the unusual machine marks on the side of the guide, reminiscent of a product slapped together in a third world country.
Even without plugging the guide in, you know you’re in distress by this point. But you hope that you’re not like everyone else whose written a terrible review of the product (see other products listings for the same product). Maybe I’ll be different and mine will work.
With you plug it in, it works and you breathe a sigh of relief. I did for all of 3 1/2 minutes. Then mine died. It won’t power up again, either in the external guide case or the internal slot in my Dell.
You’ll be sorry if you buy this guide. You won’t be different. You’ll own a brick like the rest of us.
Hey, but some people only learn by experience (myself included).
Buy the HITACHI Deskstar 750GB (Model 7K1000 HDS721075KLA330 (0A35154)). You can find it cheaper than the Seagate. It also runs quieter and cooler than the Seagate, it’s made in Thailand (everywhere many legitimate OEMs make their drives) and not China, the outside case appears to be better machined, and it doesn’t stop working with 4 minutes.

Not much to say except that I’m pleased I got it. Arrived quickly and well packaged. Worked as promised and the price was fantastic. I would buy from this vendor again.

Using 15 of these in a guide array. Over the course of 1.5 years we have had to replace two. These are being used in a high demand array for backup that is running 24x7x365, so 2 out of 15 in 1.5 years isn’t too terrible. Had no problems sending the two drives in for RMA direct to seagate either. Running 4 months so far with no failures as well.

I’ve had my Seagate ST3750640AS for one year now and it has done a fantastic job. The guide is very quick and responsive.
The only minor complaint I would have is that it did cause my computer to beat a bit when spinning up. I just place a piece of plywood under my computer so it didn’t sit on the carpet and all was well.
I don’t know what the other complaints are about. I researched the guide previous to buying and it had really excellent benchmarks. Granted, it had just come out when I bought it though. Perhaps he got a bum unit or bought one from a bum vendor.
Mine’s been excellent to me!
